What is Menopause Yoga?
Menopause Yoga is a specialist yoga practice and positive wellbeing programme designed to support women from perimenopause to post menopause
Menopause Yoga is a non-dogmatic practice, programme and approach that seeks to Educate women, Empower them with a toolkit of techniques and encourages them to Embrace the menopause as an opportunity for self-transformation and growth. The key to flourishing in Second Spring is embracing more self-kindness, self-compassion, self-acceptance – and prioritising personal self-care. She offers different classes and content for the different stages of the menopause (peri menopause, menopause and post menopause) and to help women manage some of the main symptoms.
How Does menopause Yoga Help Women in the stages of menopause?
Yoga cannot replace the hormones that decline during the menopause, which is the root cause of many symptoms. There is no research to prove that yoga can replace human hormones oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone that fluctuate and decline in menopause and after
However, yoga can reduce stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol, which may increase during the menopause and become harder to regulate. Reducing stress also helps the endocrine hormone system to function appropriately and can ease symptoms such as anxiety, overwhelm, brain fog and fatigue, hot flushes, irritability, insomnia and improve genitourinary symptoms.
The menopause is a biological (hormones and physical symptoms), psychological (brain cognitive function), sociological (affected by the society and culture you live in) and soulful or spiritual transformation (empowerment and insight).
Understanding the factual reasons why women experience symptoms, and talking about their experiences in the safety of women’s circles, can also help to reduce stress and anxiety at this stage of life.
