Your back is designed to hold you up, keep you mobile, and allow you do all the things you love doing. Yet most people develop unconscious postural habits and back pain as they age. Moving from the Inside Out
Your physical and energetic centre of gravity lies deep with you. In the Yoga tradition this primordial place is known as the hara. It acts like the hub of a wheel facilitating movement in all directions, while providing a stable base to move from. The connection from the core of the body outwards, and from the periphery inwards is at the heart of every yoga posture, forming the basis for integrated movement, instinctive alignment, and freely radiating breath throughout your body.
This workshop will explore your relationship to our inner GPS and how to integrate your spine, your limbs and yourself to this central hub. We’ll examine what happens when you establish a strong yet mobile core, and how the breath is the key to creating this. As you connect to your centre, you experience being moved from the inside out with lightness and ease. Asana practice evolves effortlessly, and even complex movements are instinctively understood and mastered. Beyond the physical practice, we’ll explore how working with the hara allows you align ourself mentally, emotionally, energetically and spiritually.
During the workshop, we’ll explore the art of vinyasa as a moving meditation, asana and posture work, breathwork, somatic or guided self-enquiry, interoception (awareness of subtle, body based feelings), and restorative yoga. There will also be short lectures to clarify the teaching and learning and address your questions.
Suitable for students with over one year of yoga practice. Bring a curious mind and a smiling heart.

Shifting Gears: Slow Down and Enjoy the Ride
Your nervous system has two modes. The ‘doing’ side sends you out into the world to work, play and be active. The ‘being’ side takes care of relaxation, recuperation and healing. Stress is what happens when your body’s instinctual ability to balance ‘being’ and ‘doing’ is overpowered. Stress shuts down your ability to sense and feel.
In this workshop you will:
Explore sensation as a tool to healing
Explore how to bring balance and steadiness to the nervous system
Cultivate active relaxation
Investigate the embodied anatomy of the nervous system and how it talks to muscles, organs, and other tissues
Learn key skills to free the spine
Free the breath to liberate the flow of prana or life-force
Refine kinaesthetic awareness, interoception and proprioception
Investigate the best tools for clarity and calm
Learn how to deeply rest and truly restore energy reserves
Embody loving-kindness, comfort and self-care
Experience ease from your head to your toes. The workshop will include a short lecture, asana, somatic movement, somatic enquiry, restorative practices, and meditation.
Suitable for students from all streams of yoga with over one year practice.
